I must say that I absolutely love the attention that CMLL has been receiving worldwide.
Their women’s division has been on fire for over a year now.
So, there’s no surprise that Stephanie Vaquer, who holds both the NJPW Strong Title and the CMLL women’s heavyweight championship would represent NJPW and face off against the CEO and current TBS women’s champion Mecedes Moné.
Over the past few weeks, we have seen Mercedes confront Vaquer in CMLL and during her AEW debut match on this past weeks episode of Collision. So to say that these women were ready to battle, would be an understatement.
Before this match we see an opening video package that shows all of the training that Mercedes Moné has been undergoing to gear up for this match. Mercedes has incorporated a lucha style and influence into her training over the past year and certainly that will come in handy when facing off against Stephanie.
Stephanie is being showcased as the confidence and effective double champ that she is. Totally dominating and collecting belts in any promotion that she’s been in. This helps to show that Moné is evenly matched in this competition.
We get right into the action after the bell rings with both ladies aggressive in their offense.
Honestly, both women have been dying to get back into the ring with one another.
Let’s not forget that they had an intense battle in 2023, when competing to be the inaugural NJPW strong women’s champion.
In the beginning of this match, we see both women doing some amazing footwork on the ropes that left the fans gasping.
Mercedes thinks that she has the lead, but Stephanie makes a comeback and does a strikingly beautiful crossbody off the ropes to take some control of the match.
Mercedes uses those agile hips to pay tribute to the late, great Eddie Guerrero with some swift suplexes.
However, Stephanie counters this and locks in an arm submission.
This incapacitates Moné for a bit.
Vaquer then does her patented move, where she violently drives Mercedes face into the mat with her thighs and knees several times.
This really gets the fans revved up.
Vaquer goes to the top rope and dives, but Moné, delivers a brutal kick to Vaquer’s ribs.
This marks one of the first times, that we really see Vaquer down and out.
Both women get their noggins rattled with a double DDT. However, both women shake it off, get up, and tries to apply effective crossfaces.
As this match goes on, you can see that Stephanie has become a fan favorite in this match. With the fans cheering loudly for anything that she does.
While booing Mercedes’s efforts at victory.
Mercedes pulls out two backstabbers, then goes to the top rope, but Stephanie gets her knees up .
Vaguer does a nasty move that twist Mercedes leg in the corner of the ring, but miraculously, Moné is able to get a crosface in.
Followed by the money maker finisher and another crossface to win the NJPW Strong title.
Making her a Double champion.
The crowd really wanted Stephanie to retain. You could definitely hear the boos as Stephanie was dethroned of NJpW Strong title.
I can’t say that I disagree with the fans in attendance. Vaquer is truly one of favorites on the scene right now.
While Mercedes is celebrating, Dr. Britt Baker makes a comeback.
After a long, but well deserved break from in ring action.
All to the delight of everyone in attendance.
You can see Mercedes being cocky and proudly holding up her titles and pointing at Britt Baker. While also bringing the belts closer to her body in a sign of worry.
Will we see a match between these two in the future?
That is to be seen.
All that can be said for now, is that Stephanie Vaquer and Mercedes Moné put on a clinic.
And truly was my favorite match of the night.
