On this week’s episode of The Ladies Wrestling Grio podcast, I discuss the history of the Reina de Reinas championship. Of course I have to pair that off with some great matches that have happened under the Reina de Reinas tournament.

This was the full 2002 Reina de Reinas tournament match. You can tell by the video quality that this was in the early years of the tournament. Esther Moreno captured the title again at this time.
Faby Apache vs Sexy Star
The feud between Faby Apache and Sexy Star was at a all time high. I mean these women competed in a Hair vs Mask match, steel cage match and now a bull terrier match with chains wrapped around their necks. There was certainly no love lost between these ladies.
The 2006 Reina de Reinas tournament
Martha Villalobos, Moss Janeth, La Diabolica and Cinthia Moreno competed in this years match. I believe that everyone probably though that it would be a good idea to eliminate Martha because she was the strongest competitor. Martha was smart and took time to gain her composure and then would come back to drain the energy out of the rest of the women. To me, this match showed off how calculated each women was to determine the flow of the match and see when they should go in and try to get the win.
Faby Apache vs Lady Shani
Lady Shani came into this match ready to dismantle any of Faby’s offense by delivering hard kicks, but you can never, EVER, underestimate a veteran like Apache.
Taya Valkyrie vs Ayako Hamada- The bloody brawl
In this second battle for the Reina de Reinas championship both women can for a street fight and damn well delivered. We had chairs, tables and ladders used. There was no way to determine who would way with the way that the match continued to change hands. A roller coaster this much. In every way.
The 2019 Reina de Reinas tournament
The entrances of the women left me awestruck and then the match took it even further. Tessa Blanchard seemed like the American heel that was invited to the tournament, but the luchadoras just wanted to get her out of this tournament. The belt was hanging high, so ladders had to be introduced and that’s was when the craziness came in! You can tell that the ending of this match really rubbed Faby Apache the wrong way.
Ayako Hamada vs Lady Shani
The 2018 Reina de Reinas tournament
Faby Apache was really getting a beating from the rudas (heels) in this match. The fans were totally behind her to win this tournament. Faby’s baby face come backs where awesome and lit up the arena. I really enjoyed how the match came down to Star Fire and Apache. You can feel the desire for both women to win.
